The Web 2.0 and thoughts that I had from reading though lens 1 so far.
The Web 2.0
The idea of the Internet and what it is all about is probably pretty obvious to everybody and myself, however, I was not aware of Web 2.0 and how it developed from Web 1.0.
Web 2.0 is what the online technology is about in the current time. It is compared to the early days of the Web 1.0 characterised by greater user interactivity and collaboration. It provides opportunities for the reader and creator to interact and also be the creator at times.

The effects of Web 2.0 on my practice
I personally feel that the Web 2.0 has a positive effect on my practice and I could also mention how at times it could hinder my practice if I am not sensible with what I do or think. For instance, body image can be effected by what we see on social media which is part of the Web 2.0. Following unnecessary videos/tutorials/posts that might not give safe dance practice may have a negative effect on my practice. Essentially, this leads to saying that one must be mature and ensure to be able to choose the right from the wrong - Quality over quantity.

On the other hand, Web 1.0 is simply one-way communications between creator and reader. By reading O'Reilly's article about Web 2.0, I understood further the merge between Web1.0 and Web2.0 and how it now allows the reader and creator to interact more than before.

On the other hand, as a dancer, the Web 2.0 enables me to find out about auditions, be part of groups who share same interests as me, I am also able to watch videos for personal motivation, inspiration or rehabilitation if ever needed. The Web 2.0 also allows me to promote myself as a dancer by uploading or sending my photos and show reel online or to companies.
As company manager for the dance company I tour with, thanks to Web 2.0, I am able to promote our show, get in touch with other schools via email, Facebook, Intsagram, etc.
Architecture of Participation:
the notion of participation is when people come together virtually or face to face and are able to interact. Coming together to participate enables every individual to enhance their learning. In relation to Web 2.0, we participate by being part of something or by creating something ourselves. ( Bourdieu and Johnson, 1993, Duncomble, 1997, O'Hagan, 1996)
In my practice as a dancer and company manager, I participate in various ways; firstly, as a dancer, I participate by attending classes in order to keep my technique up to standard and keep myself fit for when it comes to learn new choreography. One might question; What does this have to do with the Web 2.0?
Well it certainly comes into play as nearly every time I learn new choreography, I look up the music to enable em to practice in my own time. I also watch videos of other professional dancers who have previously done similar work or of the same style for my personal inspiration and self motivation throughout. With regards to being company manager, I participate by attending necessary meeting when it comes to planning our tour term. I prepare all the paper work necessary and make contacts with all the people involved via email, Facebook promotions/ posts, sharing of videos and publicising of our company.
I feel that by all doing all of this and being part of it all enhances my learning, I get to meet new people, create new relationships, acquire or discover more skills and have better time management throughout. By saying this, I show that I strongly agree with (Hamilton, 2000 p.371)
Harnessing Collective Intelligence:
being part of BAPP is certainly an example of participation within a group/community of individual intelligence that merges together into new thoughts and ideas.
Individuals are able to voice their opinion within the community by creating or forming part of a discussion which is full of intelligence. By having access to such intelligence, one is fortunate in a way as we might start the discussion with one idea/thought and most times leave with more. I feel that I always need to remind myself that when I am part of discussion, at time I find it easier to go with the flow and just agree with what is being said. However, as I discuss more, I constantly try to encourage myself to think and delve further in order to see what else I can think of rather than be a sheep and just follow on. I thought of sharing this as I feel that it will enhance learning and although our aim is not to solve each others' problems, it would certainly develop one's further and offer alternative thought processes.
Reading and writing about this brought me to understand and value more the idea of myself as being my own 'director'. In addition, this brought me to think that at times, we might under estimate the words: 'I' and 'myself' - both singular pronouns and both used when one talks or refers to oneself about something personal. Myself is all about and not a group of people - I might have a collaboration of different thoughts from other people but in the end, it should be my own voice.
